REVIVAL & RESTORATION

Revive What's Damaged. Restore What's Worth Enhancing.

Some media needs rescuing before it can be transferred, and some deserves careful restoration after. We do both, only when it's the right call for your collection.

BEFORE TRANSFER

Revival: Rescuing Damaged Media

Before a damaged tape can be transferred, it often needs work to make it playable again. These treatments are quoted separately, because not every tape needs them, and we only carry out what yours actually requires.

Baking: tapes suffering from "sticky-shed" (the breakdown of the binder that holds the magnetic layer together) are baked in controlled, low heat so they can play without shedding or jamming.

Tape repair & re-shelling: broken or torn tapes are repaired, and cracked or damaged shells and cases replaced, so the tape can run safely through a machine.

Mold treatment: moldy tapes are quarantined away from the rest of your collection, dried with silica to kill the mold, and the tape itself cleaned when needed, before they ever touch a deck.

Damaged discs: a cracked or badly warped disc can't be repaired, but we do everything we can to recover whatever it still holds.

AFTER TRANSFER

Restoration, Enhancement & Post-Production

We provide post-transfer restoration and post-production services to enhance the audio and video quality of your digitized files: high-quality deinterlacing, noise reduction, color correction, general video and audio post-production, and up-conversion to HD, 4K, and beyond.

Restoration is optional, and only done when you ask.

After the raw transfer is done, there's the option to apply various restoration technologies. We only do this when you explicitly request it. In line with professional archival practice, the same principle followed by the world's sound and audiovisual archives (IASA), these actions change the authenticity of the transfer, so we treat the raw transfer as the true record. For many clients that authenticity is essential; for others, enhancement is exactly what they want. Either way, it's your call.

The services we offer include

Audio

Noise reduction · speed correction · volume correction

Video

High-quality deinterlacing · chroma and luma correction · noise reduction · colour-level adjustment · up-conversion (SD or HD, to 4K and beyond)

Because scanned film becomes a digital video file, these video services apply to your film too. Grain reduction is simply the film equivalent of noise reduction.

From Restored to Reused

Restoration doesn't have to be the end of the story. Once your footage is cleaned up and enhanced, it's ready to become something new: re-edited into a fresh cut, a tribute, a brand piece, or a film built from material no one had been able to watch in years. We are a media company first, with decades of production behind us, so the same team that revives and restores your collection can help you turn it into content worth sharing. Ask us what your footage could become.
